Few of us I am afraid fully recognize the work of God going on around us daily. We pass through this life oblivious to the presence of God in our everyday affairs.
One such occurrence transpired during the time of Elisha’s service as the prophet of God. Elisha had warned the king of Israel about the Syrian army’s location. This greatly distressed the Syrian king who then sent a battalion to capture Elisha.
Praying for Open Eyes
The account picks up here: “And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, ‘Alas, my master! What shall we do?’ So he answered, ‘Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ And Elisha prayed, and said, ‘Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.“~2 Kings 6:15-17
Oh, that God might open our eyes today! This same God who was protecting Elisha is the One who guards us day and night. Let not your heart be troubled as you look upon the visible circumstances of life.
Spend no time in consideration of what you are going to do in providing a remedy.
Faith Produces Open Eyes
By faith, Elisha could see the army of God already assembled. His words of comfort to his young servant were based on fact not fantasy. They were based on hard data not a hope so of doubt.
“Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
When the young man’s eyes were opened, he too saw what Elisha had already witnessed. A mountain full of fiery soldiers standing in defense of these two men. Here is the plentiful provision of God on display. The mountain was FILLED with God’s army. It was the MOUNTAIN not the valley that was overflowing with God’s army. God had the high ground! It was an army of FIRE ready to consume all that had risen against God’s servants.
Facing Today with Open Eyes
So, what have you arisen to discover today? What army has surrounded you during the night? Do you need your eyes opened to see the protection of God’s mighty army? Father, open our eyes and let us see not what you WILL provide, but what IS already in place at this very moment. Amen!
